his is a gorgeous photograph of "Big Red" turning for home as he pulls away from the field in the second leg of racing's Triple Crown. Only a misfiring timer prevented Secretariat from setting track or world records in all three Triple Crown races. His subsequent Belmont Stakes world record of 2:24 flat was superior to any Belmont Stakes running performance by at least 10 lengths. Secretariat's three year old season was the greatest run by any horse racing champion ever. During the 1973 Triple Crown season, Secretariat was on the cover of Time Magazine, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. This was the zenith of horse racing prominence in the eyes of the American public.Secretariat was ridden by Ron Turcotte and trained by Lucien Laurin.
